Thetford Cluster - Tri Golf Festival

Thetford Golf Course was host to its first Tri-golf festival on Wed 22nd April; the event was supported by Karen Young (golf development officer), Jon Eaton (Norfolk Competition team) and sports leaders from Rosemary Musker High School.

50 Year 4 children from Admirals, Norwich rd, Bishops and Queensway Junior schools tried their hand at various chipping and putting challenges and even had the chance to experience playing a real golf hole as part of the festival.

All schools across the town had received specific coaching from James  ‘O' Doherty (Pro golfer from Thetford Golf club) prior to the event and it was brilliant to see how far some of them had come in just a few sessions.

The day began with a game of ‘Tiger says' which proved very popular with both children and staff especially when partnership mascot Brecky bear joined in!!

The event was delivered by sports leaders from Rosemary Musker High School who worked in pairs on the various stations ranging from B'ullseys' to ‘Grand National'. They were responsible for the scoring and smooth running of all the activities, without them the event would not have been half as successful.

The children were given a practice round prior to the scores being recorded; this proved invaluable with many players exceeding everybody's expectations.

Once the teams had rotated around all the stations everyone regrouped at the ‘Bunker stop' for the results to be announced.

In 2nd place was Admirals Team 2 but coming in at 1st was Admirals Team 1!!

Remarkable efforts all round considering all the children were new to the sport in March.

Due to the success of this festival it is hoped we can make it a yearly event, this will not only help to feed children into the youth section at the club but will also enable Thetford to compete for places at the County Tri-Golf Festival in July.
