FREE Bikeability Cycle Training For Schools

Bikeability is ‘cycling proficiency’ for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.

Breckland School Sport Partnership (SSP) has accessed some funding to enable its schools to be able to receive Bikeability training FREE of charge.

Jenny Day, Partnership Development Manager (PDM) for Breckland SSP said;

"Bikeability Training is an excellent way to help young people to feel confident to ride their bikes more. Cycling is an excellent way for young people to be physically active and lead a healthy lifestyle"

See the below FAQ's about Bikeability Training;

Who can take part in the training? Bikeability training is targeted at boys and girls in Years 5, 6 & 7.

How much does it cost? The training is completely FREE as Breckland SSP have accessed funding to enable its schools to receive training at no cost until July 2011.

Where will the training take place? The first few hours of training are delivered on the school site where pupils are assessed on their basic bike control skills. Once they master these, the training can progress onto local road junctions and then making a journey, such as the journey from home to school.

Do pupils need to bring their own bike/helmet? Yes, all pupils will need to bring their own bike and helmet to all sessions. (Some helmets are available for students to borrow if they do not have their own).

Who will deliver the training? Bikeability Training is being delivered on behalf of Breckland SSP by Gold Medal Sports Ltd. All training courses will be delivered by fully qualified Bikeability National Standard Instructors who all have a current CRB disclosure and also will have attended First Aid and Safeguarding training.

What will the pupils receive when they complete the course? All pupils that successfully complete the training will receive a Bikeability participation certificate to recognise their achievement and also information about local cycling opportunities.
