RECORD NUMBERS ATTEND TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL

On Wednesday 20th November, Breckland School Sports Partnership hosted a Tag Rugby Development Festival for primary school children in Y3-6.

This event is part of the School Games offering but did not feed into the Norfolk School Games Finals. Our organsining committee believe that the pathway into club rugby is already very strong across the county.

The event, hosted at Iceni Academy, welcomed over 250 pupils from 11 different primary schools from across Breckland.

The Y3/4 pupils took part in a skills rotation, including, handling, footwork, catching, kicking and some fun ball to hand related relay races.

The Y5/6 pupils played 6-a-side matches where staff where encouraged to get involved on the field of play to help with the general rules and positional play for the team.

Results from the Y5/6 matches were recorded for schools who were keen to recognise the scores. The RFU believe matches at this level should not be recognised in a competition format and that emphasis should be placed on children enjoying the sport and getting to grips with developing an understanding of the game for all.

Teams were required to field at least 2 girls per team and it was great to see so many girls taking part and enjoying the experience.
