Breckland Leadership Academy 2012

Watton Sports Centre played host to the Breckland Leadership Academy on Wednesday 7th March 2012.

Sixty Sports Ambassadors from across the Partnerships four high schools attended a full day of training organised by Marie Reidie School Games Organiser for the Breckland School Sports Partnership.

The event followed on from the Youth Sports Trust Young Ambassadors Conference in November at Twickenham which witnessed one top leader from every high school going to London to learn how to be a Gold Ambassador and engage more children in school sport and exercise.

Once they had completed the days training they were asked to recruit a team of 14 Silver ambassadors as their workforce to spread the Olympic message across their cluster schools.

It was these team of gold and silver ambassadors which were invited to the Leadership Academy to under go the following workshops in the morning-

1) Adistar training and school games organiser committee training

2) YST Coach, Mentor and Official workshop

After lunch the leaders were then assigned to one of the School Games sports for some further sports specific training by external coaches.

The Thetford Academy- Keysteps Gymnastics

Hockwold and Methwold Community School- Tri Golf

After completion of the activities the Ambassadors were each awarded with a whistle and have been assigned with a Level 2 Primary competition which they must organise and deliver-

We were very lucky to have Stephen Hulme County School Games Organiser as our guest speaker as he explained to the Ambassadors that the day was just a stepping stone into the world of sports leading and if they enjoyed it they could be part of the massive event in June- The Norfolk School Games!

Students who wish to take their leading further have also been sign posted to Breckland Council and Active Norfolk as they are running NGB level courses in April and offer grants to support the costs.
