5 Month Countdown to the Olympic Games!

Easton College played host to the Breckland School Sports Partnership 5 month Countdown to the Olympic Games on the 27th February 2012.

Ten schools from across the Partnership were invited to the college as part of the Dare to Dream project, whilst there they took part in a selection of School Games sports delivered by students currently studying on the L3 sports diploma.

The children also took part in an Olympic themed challenge which looked at how physical fitness is different for different sports, they also had to come up with an Olympic Motto which Rocklands school won.

Each school which attended was allocated an Olympic country to research and produce presenation material for, this seemed to go down very well with some schools creating massive art murals with 3D effects!. The work was then displayed around the hall as part of the closing ceremony.

Queensway Jnr- Mexico

Bishops- Poland

Rocklands-Fiji

Thetford Grammar- Italy

Parkers- Greece

Watton Jnr- Argentina

Throughout the day each schools teacher was on the lookout for one child who demonstrated one or more of the Olympic values as they were awarded a PRIDE medal during the closing ceremony.

We were very lucky to have Paul Evans as the guest speaker as he brought along his Olympic tracksuit, medals, trophies  and a very inspiring story of how a local lad not very good at football trained hard and focused his energy to become a marathon medal winner!

The day was a great success and gave the children a chance to feel part of the celebration build up to the Olympic Games
