Young Ambassadors Conference 2011

Breckland SSP invited its best sports leaders to attend the annual Youth Sports Trust Young Ambassadors Conference at Twickenham on Wednesday 16th November 2011.

Each high school was given the opportunity to send along one of its students who has demonstrated great leadership skills over the last few years.

On the day the selected leaders had a very early start as the mini bus was leaving Hockwold and Methwold Community School at 6.45am in an attempt to miss the rush hour London traffic.

I’m pleased to say Mr Spurgeon got us to Twickenham with 15 minutes to spare which gave us enough time to get the leaders kitted out in their new 'Gold Ambassadors' polo shirts and have our pictures taken with the official London 2012 Olympic torch..Which was pretty amazing?

The conference this year was delivered by a couple of last year’s Platinum Ambassadors who gave us a very inspiring account of what you can achieve as part of the Ambassadors scheme.

The Gold Ambassadors were then treated to a guest appearance from Olympic Gold medal winner Jonathan Edwards who discussed with them what it was like to represent your country at the Olympics and his role he will play as part of the London 2012 planning committee.

Throughout the day the new Gold Ambassadors learnt how instrumental they will be in spreading the Olympic message and embedding the Olympic Values across their school, cluster and community.

The Ambassadors will have a fun filled and action packed year ahead but their first challenge will be to select and train a team of Silver Ambassadors who will work with them to spread the Olympic buzz across all their feeder primary schools.
