Rowing Success

Hockwold and Methwold Community School played host to the first Norfolk School Games qualifying event on Monday 14th November 2012.

Students from Attleborough, Wayland, Methwold and The Thetford Academy were invited to battle it out for a place in the Breckland SSP Indoor Rowing team.

The event was a great success with everyone from Yr7-11 having a go in the 500m sprint and the endurance time trial.

The high light of the evening was the team 2500m relay race which was fantastic to watch as everyone put in 100% effort, cheers and enthusiasm.

I have to say it was brilliant to see the smiles on everyone’s faces especially the PE teachers who were super competitive towards the end.

After a hard fought race Thetford Academy edged into the lead and beat their second place rivals Wayland by less than 100m which was an amazing team performance considering they only had four rowers!

A special mention must go to the Methwold team who showed tremendous commitment as they seemed to row most of their race without a seat..the joy of shinny shorts!!

Overall a great night had by all!!
